Anyone having problems receiving Ch. 24 from Divis in the Dundalk area?
Ch.s 21, 27 & 29 are coming in at >90%, but Ch. 24 is only about 30% for the last few days and picture is breaking up.

You're sure it's channel 24? (498 mHz, the HD mux.)

Fine here on the Carrick Road. Strength - 95%, quality - 100.

Is it possible that trees coming into leaf would affect one channel (Ch. 24) & not affect the others?

It's probably more likely that you'd see lower levels on all channels...the fact that it's between other channels make me suspect that you've got problem with your system....possibly a fault in an amplifier that's causing it to act like a notch filter. You could also have a look and see if there's any frayed or damaged cable.....

What are you using for amplification?

A Fringe A1228 Super Masthead Amp. followed by a Group A/Group C combiner, going to a 6-way distribution box in attic.
Signal on Ch. 24 was OK until last week, but was not ever as good as channels 21, 27 & 29

It could be the trees & it probably is affecting all channels. There might still only be a small difference in signal quality between ch.24 & the others, despite what the receiver readings say.

Your >90% could be near the edge of the 'digital cliff'.

What make & model receiver are you getting these readings from?

Correction, it's actually unwatchable, for the first time since October 24th using UTVsd, which seems to be unaffected. Been using divis dtt here since on digital days so it's definitely not by setup

Can't see why you would quote me there.

Anyway, you're always going to have problems like this on the fringes of reception, with receiving systems operating just above the threshold for stable viewing.

Anyone that wants to claim that their aerial setup delivers a decent signal margin, post up some proper meter readings direct from the aerial, before any amplification.

Someone will probably read that & mention signal overload as a possible problem. I'd doubt it myself, but you could try bypassing the distribution amp, provided it isn't sending power to the masthead.

Distribution amp. is sending power to the Masthead.
Receiver is a Panasonic TV (TX-PGT50B)

Could be the weather, I notice as soon as the weather gets warmer. I loose coverage.

    High Pressure = dodgy signals.

Funnily enough chs 27 and 29 quite poor for me this evening. Pixellation noticeable with signal quality varying alot. First time since DSO it's happened to me. Normally everything bar 23 (Mt Leinster interference) is usually solid.

I am only a few miles from you and same issue.

Channels 27 & 29 perfect here (3 miles south of Dundalk), but Ch. 24 is unwatchable still.

tadgh, they were ok again later on last night. Ch 24 seemed fine for me at the time 27 & 29 were dodgy.

Just wondering, at the time of DSO (Oct 24th) can you remember were there any remaining leaves on the trees then as there sometimes can be at that time of year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭tadgh

No, don't think there were any leaves on the trees at time of DSO.
All channels (with the exception of 23) have worked perfectly since DSO until about 3 weeks ago, when channel 24 became unwatchable.
Hence my suspicion of the problem being caused by trees coming into leaf.
Having said that, I can get the HD channels (BBC1, 2 HD etc) using a group C aerial pointing at Camlough. (I think it's on Ch. 55??)

HD mux from Camlough is on 50. UTV, CH4 etc on 55. Is your grp C aerial pointing in a different direction from Divis to get Camlough?

Yeah, the group C aerial for Camlough is pointing about 20 degrees west of the Divis aerial (group A), from where I live. The Camlough mast is visible from here on a good day (like today).
This Group C aerial can also pick up the Saorview from Clermont, even though it is aimed at Camlough.

When the pressure is high, your reception on Divis improves drastically. Unfortunately the other transmitters in the UK are equally improved, and clash with the Divis signal.
    Hence the signal issues.
