Recently I use a laptop (windows 8) and a PC (Windows 7) and would like to have files (e.g. Word or Excel) updated in one to be available on the other.

How can I simply do this?

    I would appreciate help.

PS: if this is in the wrong place please change.

The way I do it is I have the Excel file in my Dropbox, which I edit it from and everytime I save it, it updates the edited file.

You can also use Skydrive for this with the added bonus of being able to access and edit them in a web-browser.

Subversion (http://subversion.apache.org/) and TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.net/) should do the job well. It'll take a bit longer to set up, but it will be a lot more efficient in the future.

You could also consider keeping all the files in one shared folder on one machine, or on a NAS disk attached to your network.
