Surprised there isn't a bit more activity on this thread. :(

    Seems it could be good.

I'm learning to drive (though competent at the moment, I'd say). Did a fair few lessons with iDrive and got on pretty well with Andy (instructor. Posts here I believe). I always seem to have a mental block and repeat the same mistakes over and over (to be honest I find it a bit awkward to drive with someone in the car who's sole purpose is to focus on my driving) so I've been going out on my own (usually at night) to get myself a bit more familiar with everything.

These days I drive a fair bit and have done a few long-ish journeys (45 minutes each way is my longest I think) and so far so good. No real accidents or anything.

I picked up a Ford Focus 1.4 hatchback for €950 on DoneDeal. Bit of a rough car to look at, but mechanically sound. Spent another €400 or so getting a few bits on it cleaned up and fixed and now it seems to be running okay (though I do plan to change it when I pass the test).

Insurance with Chill.ie was exactly €1,309 (24 years old with no previous driving experience).

Currently planning to keep driving when I can without lessons for another month or two, and keep practicing some bits and pieces. Then I'll get in touch with iDrive again for a lesson or two, pre-test and then book in for the actual test with the hopes of passing.

I find the hardest part for me is actually slowing down. Instructor was always getting me to second gear before coming to a stop, however I find I tend to stop from 3rd gear at faster paces. I probably sit on the clutch too much, aswell. :(

I passed last Friday in Carrick-On-Shannon. A really nice tester, but I was still very very nerves. I got 5 blues.
