different national hunt race types?

i wondering if anyone can tell me whats the difference between, hurdle, hunterchase and steeple chase races? got into racing this year after going with a friend and trying to get a better understanding of it. do horses that run in novice races stay novice for one season? thanks!!

Am something of a newbie myself so i'll take the easy one

hurdles are 31/2 feet high, fences 41/2 feet high.

And for a question, whats the diff between a fence and an open ditch

A plain fence is just a plain fence. An open ditch has a ditch on the jumping side in front of the fence that the horse must jump from

Its supposed to be invisible grass. I'm colour blind so I can't see it
