Changing from LPG Bulk Gas to Oil

    Hi all

I have had constant arguments with calor ireland regarding my usage so I practically stopped using the gas, rang today to give a meter reading and cost is €91.00 which is for 7 weeks but I have not used the water and only putting on the heating every 3rd day for one hour with stats down to 15 & 20.

So I am looking to get rid of the gas and put in oil to the house; as unfortunately Calor owns all the piping etc of the development and I am unable to switch to Flogas or get my own private tank.

So what I need to know
    1. Gas hob that is on mains can I get a cyclinder connected to it.
    2. What is needed to convert to oil- do I need to get a new boiler/tank etc and is it a big job.
    3. what is the average costing for such a job.

I am getting an insert stove(non boiler) installed this week so at least I will be toasty in my front room.

    Any help would be grateful
    Thanks Dove

Yes you can use your hob on bottled gas. A new boiler and oil tank will cost 1500 approx. then you need to fill the tank. You also need fittings, a powerflush, and labour for installation. The job will be at least 2500 I'd say

You may need different jets for your hob, depending on what type of gas bottle you want.
A standard 11kg Kosangas _DSC2500_470_1.jpg is all you need. cheap to install, easy to change, but you will have to goto your hob supplier for new jets.

Propane & butane use the same jets.
As far as I am aware if you have a meter/GPRN you can change to any supplier you wish, even Electric Ireland or Botd Gais or Flogas.
The only time you cannot change is if you have your own LPG bulk storage tank.

Thanks for the info. i should have been more clearer its a communal bulk Lpg gas. i live in the back arse of Kerry. any suggestions on cost effective but cheaper boiler system for oil. in 6 months I've spent over a grand in heating just can't afford it.

    Bear in mind

that if your cut your connection from the bulk supply and sometime down the line want a reconnection a fee will apply.

A 54kg propane tank of gas is about 1/3 more expensive than the same volume of bulk tank gas I've done the calculations.

As the guys said about €2500 for oil installation and its not going to b that much cheeper, yea you won't get charged standing charge but your alreaddy trying to recoop 2.5k from oil that can b one euro for one ltr.

    IMHO they have you....

You making the right move with the stove.

Heating controls upgrade is you best investment, you will need to run the gas at some point so control the heating.

    Final words

Insulation and more insulation = return on investment.
