Lumia 920 won't play MP4 files transferred from laptop

I've followed every instruction manual online and no matter what i do, when i transfer the files to the Lumia it refuses to even show them as existing. Would anyone have a solution? I've converted some songs to MP3 and that's worked fine, but I don't want to have to do it for all 3000!
