Ballcock dripping constantly but no overflow

The ballcock on the water tank in my attic is dripping. It is a heavy drip but the water never reaches the overflow.

When I force the ballcock down for up to a minute, Water flows in as normal and when I release the force the drip stops and all is normal. Logic tells me that the ball and water would have maybe risen slightly. However this only lasts for about 5 minutes then the water begins to drip form the valve again.

I'm wondering if this is a ballcock issue or is there something else happening?

If water is dripping constantly into the tank and there is no overflow then where is the water going? Is this normal?

Thanx, I would appreciate any help with this matter.

You need to replace the ballcock valve, simple enough and not expensive. It will get worse over time and will get to the stage where it overflows.

Its not overflowing at the moment as the rate of the drip is still small.. Before it has time to reach the overflow you will have used water from the tank, toilet or sink.. So it currently never reaches the overflow..

Change it now before it gets bad enough to be a problem, it will only get worse.

    Hi
    Thanx for the quick reply.

When you say "the rate of the drip is still small". Would this be considered still small (see attached images).

...and also, Am I correct in thinking the valve is behind the cap I have pointed to in the Ballcock 3 image.

    Thanx again.

Have you tried turning off the cold water stop-cock to the taps?

Its possible that theres a slow leak somewhere and the tank is constantly emptying at the same rate?

No. Is this the stop-cock under the Kitchen sink or the mains?

€10-12 will get you a whole new ballcock unit.
I wouldn't be messing round changing bits of the old one.

Change it an you'll have 10-15 years trouble free.

I have the Turned off the water from the mains for the last 2 and a half hours and the tank is now half full.

Is this normal? Is the water replenishing the system or is this an indication of a leek?

I have no signs of a leek anywhere in the house.

    Thanks.

If you want to know where the drip is going have a look into the toilet bowl. In my case I could see a very small trickle into the bowl so I guess there is an overflow in the unit that directs it into the bowl.

I replaced the ballcock unit and it sorted it.

On closer inspection I do have a small barely-noticeable trickle into the bowl.

When I opened up the drain out the back of the house I see this (see attached image) coming from the toilet.

Did you replace the ballcock unit on the attic water tank or the one in the cistern behind the toilet?

Is this all down to a faulty valve and can it be resolved with a new ballcock unit?

Is it the cause of the toilet cistern stopcock?

    Or is it both?

    Thanks

Replace the one in the toilet.
