I am looking to buy from a US site which delivers internationally. Just before the checkout page is an option to pay E5.99 as a pre-paid customs charge and it guarantees 100% that if you pay this you will not be liable for any duty charges.

anyone have experience of this type of payment / charge and how exactly does it work?

If it sounds too good to be true , then it usually is .

In this case a 100 % guarantee sounds impossible unless your item is of a value less than €25 .

Remember your item has to pass through Customs in USA and IRL , so maybe the guarantee relates to US customs .
