advice on roof bar fitting mistake !

i bought the exact fit roof bars off mick garage. the instructions are terrible ( so are my diy skills)
anyway i cut the little plastic spacer thing at the wrong end ( a 15cm thing like a ruler ) . one end is square and one tapered to fit the groove i took the 2.6cm off the wrong end. I think i have 2 options.
1. add in the rest of the distance as a seperate piece.
2. use dremel to shape the square end into the pointed edge needed ( probably wont be a great fit.

is anyone familiar with these as micks arent getting back to me on it.
also going on hols sat so need to get it fixed asap..

Not much use to you, but be sure its a good job, has to be secure..

Was on the motorway in France a few years ago, about 20km from the ferry and saw a NI reg car that had just lost the rails and roof box.. It didnt look like a nice start to a holiday
