ADHD diagonsis

    Hey guys,

First time posting in this board, but unsure if it's the right forum. So mods feel free to move if needed.

I just wanted to ask others on here, about ADHD. Listing to spin 1038 talking about ADHD and different resources, people's experiences etc etc.

I was wondering about how it is diagnosed. My parents always say, that looking back, growing up, they think I had/have ADHD. Eg. I used to get in trouble in school for consistent talking (so bad it brought other students grades down). Getting into trouble for being unable to sit down i was so hyper. I used to stand at my desk. Like I was (and still am at 22) uncontrollably impatient. Like I can barely describe how hyperactive, inattentive and impatient I am.

Like it's slightly embarrassing to say, as it makes me feel weird. But i'm 22. If I'm making tea. I'll start the kettle boiling and within 10 seconds I will literally scream and get so aggravated because it hasn't boiled the water. Like a literally shouting 'my god why hasn't this boiled.'

Like i realise people are impatient and hyper. But genuinely, I have never met anyone like me. Like I cannot sit still for more than 10 seconds. Fidgeting, sitting, standing etc. I have to walk around the kitchen and living room, when eating lunch, as I haven't got the focus to relax and sit and eat my food.

Overall, I'm wondering does this sound like ADHD? And what is the process for diagnosis? And what benefit would such a diagnosis bring me?

The reason I am asking, is because 4th year in university is coming soon and I know my inability to sit still for more than 10seconds, could really cause problems. I've never studied and I know this year, luck and natural intelligence won't get me through. To date, i've succeed, but far from my potential. Because i cannot relax enough to work. I cannot emphasise how bad it gets at times. But i want my final year, to really achieve and this behaviour is causing the problems for me.

Really I'm wondering would a diagnosis, so late in life, really change anything for me? IF I were to be diagnosed.

Apologies if I really have no idea what i'm talking about. I'm mainly just searching for information on the condition, from potentially others, my age. Most of what i've found online is targeted to parents, with children.

    Thanks

we can't offer you a diagnosis here. you should see your gp and take it from there, they may refer you onwards.
