    Hi there

Im 27yr old male currently working in a sales type role for a large multinational. Im top performer on the team and last yr i took home around 45k

My problem is that the company offers no career paths.im with the company2half yrs and ive seen 3 people get promoted.one guy is a foreign language hard to find but got a team lead rle after 1 yr even after never getting close to his target.another guy got promoted after he threatened to live after not getting another role.he was a contract also.

As im doing irish market i find more difficult.no promotion opportunities

The company is very political and alot of bum kissers.i dont do that and just do my job.

Ive a degree in marketing but i find it hard to get into

What else could i branch into.

I think i need to get out of where i am as its destroying me.ive always been honest with process issues in team meetings and always tried to do my best and worked outside my job role.i...all while the quiet yes sir brigade get pushed up

I find the best way is just to ask senior management what I have to do to get promoted. Then do it and keep them in the loop with progress. Shows youre interested and keeps name in the hat in case something comes up

    Hi bluefox

The company has progression plans every so often but they just fall by the wayside.I asked before on why they were not kicked on and was told cut backs and market changes...which is not the case.

The latest craic is incremental payrise on performance reviews..this will prob not ever even happen

The company is on target this yr when they didnt expect to be by now

Hmmm you could put aside half an hour into the calender for review sessions? Does sound frustrating though. I find the more dialogue the better but easier to say than do!

The people who get promoted (more than once) tend to be political, so it is probably in your interest to improve your office politics skills.

I made a decision about two years ago to become very political and amazingly I've transformed myself from a senior engineer at a multinational to a director at another multinational.

It really isn't that hard. You just have to become "allies" with the right people and show your boss you are completely on his/her side and they can count on you. Also doing things like producing a ton of documents and policies and "best practices" does wonders.

I would say my promotions have been 60% political, 40% competency. (I am competent and I make sure the bosses know it from all the documentation I produce).

So what am I trying to say... yeah, become political. That doesn't mean you don't have to become an arsehole.
