Replacing a screen on a Nokia Lumia 820

I went and dropped my almost new Nokia lumia 820 the other day.

Screen cracked and the phone is unresponsive now, ie I cant use the touch screen at all.

The screen behind the front panel is still intact and is displaying correctly.

I went into a few places and they all said that I need a new display, the price ranges from 130 ish , with Meteor themselves, to 220.

Everyplace seems a bit vague on how long it will take to get a screen for me.

Anyone had to replace one and can you recommend anyplace in Dublin or Galway.

And maybe give me an idea of price too.

    Cheers

Thats nasty after a few days. Its not as bad as it seems though, because you would only need a digitizer which is the glass on the front that you touch, you can reuse the lcd that is behind it. It is not fused together like other models which makes a costly fix.

€220 would be more the price of digitizer and LCD. You might be able to get the digitizer for roughly €50 but would lose your warranty doing your repair even if its a simple ten minute job.

    hi Davvy

I had two places telling me that its fused together and I would have to buy both.
Would you be able to recomend a place to do the repair?

They haven't worked on a lumia 820. You dont have to buy the LCD, just the glass and front housing it comes with. If they LCD had bled it would be a different story. They are saying both because that's the way most models have gone that way now

Thanks Guys, I have fired a e-mail off to Nokia to see if they can fit the digitizer for me and see what sort of a price it would be.

Fingers crossed it works out cheaper than expected.

Same thing happened mine the other day. I've sent a mail to Nokia as well but if they're too dear I'll chance it myself

    Got my reply already...
    Hi ,

The cost for replacing the touchscreen would be €69. It generally takes us 60-90 minutes to do.

    Good price.

Cool, thats the same price I got from them too.
The only snag was that they only opened during the week so i would not be able to get into them.

Went with another crowd, fonez in galway, 89 euro for the same. Bit more expensive but they work the weekend which helps alot.

Same problem, crack across the phone but not on the LCD panel. Can you reccommend best solution?

Yep, contact Nokia directly. I tried Fonez but they sent me out an envelope to post the phone to them twice, the first one didnt arrive nor did the second. They also refused to refund me. Avoid is my advice.

    Go with nokia.

just rang them, they reckon it's just the digitiser, so €70. Seems like a fair enough price. Thanks

Got mine repaired by an asian lad in the local shopping center for 70. 2 weeks later. dropped it from my hand just onto my desk (with new gel case on) and the bloody screen cracked again... nightmare. Seem to be fragile enough screens. Got another lad to fix it on Camden Street for 80 bucks then
