I've recently changed my timing belt, coil, leads and plugs on my 2005 1.4 Ford Focus LX saloon. The main errors I get from the diagnostics are P0100 and p1100,relating to the mass air flow sensor. When I had the belt done I was informed the problem was with the coil but Ive replaced the coil, leads and plugs today and I'm still getting an error with the mas. Problem is, I can't find it's location as it is not evident on the surface of the filter like the 1.6 or diesel engines. I've also been told by someone that my vehicle has no MAS yet why would my cel still come on when these codes are coming up in diagnostic mode. Has anybody any advice on the MAS location or what else I could do.

    Cheers

Your car has a MAP sensor rather then a MAF sensor, its in beside the throttle body.

The standard OBD P0100 relates to a circuit malfunction and the Ford specific P1100 relates to the ECU being unable complete its drive cycle self test on the MAP sensor so you likely have a failed sensor or a wiring fault leading to or from the sensor.

Does whatever you are using to get the codes have the ability to read live ECU data? If so then see what the signal from the MAP sensor is.

You're spot on, it is a MAP sensor. Unfortunately the in-built disagnostics doesn't read ecu data, just the basics. Oddly enough my CEL went off yesterday morning. I've checked the wiring and its all fine. Ran the diagnostics again and still had the error coming up. The car is running fine since I changed the coil, plugs and leads. What effects should I be noticing if my MAP sensor is faulty?

You may also be able to look at the status of the various Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) modules via your diagnostic tool. "FUEL", "CCM", "2AIR" or somesuch will probably be showing "NOT READY" if the MAP sensor is faulty. The car will run more-or-less OK with a dead airflow sensor - the computer will derive an approximate airflow from RPM and throttle position - but it is not a good place to be medium to long term. You'll also probably notice an increase in fuel consumption. Get that sensor checked out properly, and replace it if necessary.
