Strange or not?

    Upon boarding the 18.10 Dart in Bray which was coming from greystones which was an 8 car set it was announced that the train would be split when it arrived on platform 1 and we were only allowed to board the first four carriages, Is that regularly done?

    It happened once or twice a few years ago when I was coming home from Bray in the late evening. The uncoupling process makes quite a loud thumping sound when your in the carriage next to the splitting point. Nevertheless, it ain't strange!;)

    There may have been a fault on one of the sets that took it out of use. It would be a sensible way to move the stock up to Bray where they could be checked. It may also have been an unscheduled stock movement to form a later train.

    I just found it strange from the years of commuting on this line I had never seen this before..

    Not strange at all.

    In this era of austerity there is no point of running half empty 8 car trains outside of the peak. Therefore several services divide at Bray at the end of the peaks. There is also a couple of set swaps at Connolly from 8 to 4 car sets at the end of the morning peak. Not sure if this happens in the evening peak.

    Nice! We call it asset management. I seem to remember the SRR recommending that.
