Just heard the sad news on the radio that Ballykisteen Hotel has gone into liquidation. No mention of the golf course though.
They have been operating without a liquor and dance license for a while now as well which is not good. 75 weddings booked in (even one tomorrow)

Pity, its a fantastic spot. I've only played the course once but was hoping to get back down this summer.

sad that there are a lot of clubs are in so much trouble these days..heard yesterday that a club near me were doing a round of golf for 9.99 .imagine getting that in 2006-2008 ...and this course is a fine one in my opinion

Just got an email about it today. There were rumours about it for a while. This is the email that was sent..

You may have heard that a provisional liquidator was appointed to Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort today. We would like to re-assure all our members, visitors and societies that it’s business as usual here.

PREM Group Hotel Management Company have been appointed to oversee the day to day running of the business into the future.

All paid membership subscriptions will be honoured in full.

PREM Group will be implementing a new bar credit management system over the coming weeks and during this time the current bar credit system will be suspended. We would ask all members to please be patient with us during this transition. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

I will update you all as information becomes available.

Great course, spent the weekend there last year, two nights accommodation, 4 breakfasts, two 3 course dinners and two rounds for around €140-€150, it was a mad deal

Big pity, played here only a few weeks ago and a good few times over the years. Its a fine course.

There seems to be big wedding business there but they must be dead quiet during the week.

Hope the members and staff are sorted out !?

Update: We received an email this morning to say that the liquidators will honour 75% of the bar credit that members received when paying the membership fee for the year.

Members got up to €300 of credit for the bar/restaurant but that was suspended when the liquidator was appointed. It will now be loaded onto our GUI cards.

    Is it still open then?

That price is ridiculous, was thinking of organising a trip down here, that price is ridiculous, was everything ok?

Yeah, everything perfect, buffet breakfast in the mornings before a round of golf, herself off shopping, back and some grub in the bar in the evening, great practice facilities there too.
Picked up the deal from the dealpage.ie website.

Ballykisteen has been bought by Great National Hotels Group. The transfer of ownership took place last Wednesday. It's great to see it exit receivership and hopefully the golf course and hotel are now on an upward path from here on in. With the EuroPro tour due to have an event there next year it would be fantastic to see everything in tip top shape for it.

That's great news, I've always like playing the course. Hopefully they will improve it even more. Did they ever sort out the issues with the first hole?

It's now the 13th rather than the first as the order was changed during the year. There hasn't been any changes to the hole as yet but it would be great if they could manage to improve it as the tee box is quite narrow at the moment.

Hope they sort something with it. It's not adding to the course the way it is.

Why can't they shove it over left 60 yards back within 20 yards of the back of the hotel?

I don't know the answer to that. I'm not sure what the terms of the legal case were. Hopefully the new owners will be able to resolve it.

It's a disaster the way it is,you have to try play a massive cut and if you double cross your left way back ,off over near the par 3 tee box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭plumber77

It either needs a total redesign of a few holes to fit it in or else remove it altogether and start using the extra bit of land they have alongside the old 14th. Hopefully the new owners will work something out.

Agreed. It works fine for me as I my natural shot is a fade but if your natural shot is a draw it's very awkward.

    just hit it straight:) ..

Mods should the name of this thread be changed. When I clicked on it I thought it was bad news for Ballykisteen but it is actually a positive story about a golf club for a change.

Thread title changed to avoid any further confusion.

Hope to get down soon for another round, always liked playing there.

Oh my god that 13th hole there is an absolute joke with the net.

One worry I'd have is that the price of green fees will start going up soon. I do play there a fair bit in the summer and usually get it for €20 or so. Wouldn't pay more than €25 prob.

I have a strange feeling that next years Captain will have it on the list of outings :)
