    Hello All

Yes, I know, probably not the correct forum for this , but maybe some people have some knowledge of these things.

Need to buy a handy hoover/vaccum for the purpose of cleaning me car.
I dont want to spend an awful lot of money on it.

Im looking for one with the best suction power . I dunno wheter to get a one that plugs in to the cigarette lighter socket or just a one that you charge.

    Here are 2 options :

Which one of these would have the best suction power ? The cordless one or the one that plus in to the cigarette lighter.

I got a Dyson one of those a while back, and it was nowhere near powerful enough to clean a car. Good for cleaning up after small accidents at home, but that's about it.

Dysons are far too saucy in price

Was the dyson a one you charged or connected to the cigarette lighter ?

It was charged, from memory it had a lithium ion battery. I'm no expert, but I think you really need 240v for a car.

I just use the existing home vacuum cleaner with an extension lead. :pac:

    Jaysus, a 240 V seems very strong

The ones I'm looking at are only 9-12 V

Suppose the VAX one above ( the chargeable one ) wouldn't have great power either.

The reality is that a 12V power supply isn't going to run a vaccum with any really decent suction, it will only pick up really light stuff, save your money imo

id imagine not in the underground carpark / 20-30 meters away from the self closing door of the apartment.

Dundrum town centre use full sized numatic vacuum cleaners powered by 2 12v batteries in parallel , so obviously 12v vacuum cleaners arent all useless , but these handheld ones are.

or buy a honda odysee next year http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/151767-2014-honda-odyssey-adds-a-shop-vac-and-auto-tech-guess-which-buyers-will-remember

EDIT : apparantly the only decent one http://cpcireland.farnell.com/dewalt/dc500-gb/vacuum-cleaner-230v/dp/TL08828 160 notes if you already have a dewalt 18v battery and charger

In the plug outlets in the corridors of the buildings !

    I'm on the 3rd floor

For me to be able to plug in and Hoover the car with a normak hoover, I'd have to be out on a public road and run a 30 metre cable to the nearest power outlet in the public corridor.

Tisnt bad. Initial charge is 24 hours and lasts about 8 minutes.

Then charges after that are 10 hours.

And lasts 8 minutes. The 8 minutes is full power, after that just kinda dies. But grand for hoovering car and cleaning up messes in house.

Suction power is ok, nothing special though but that's to be expected with these handhelds.

Any more questions just ask ; )
