I have had a flyer about these guys based at Matthew Hill, Forge Hill Cross - has anyone used them ?
They offer pre-NCT for free (most places I have checked charge 50 for this) but obviously will look to make their money on necessary upgrades/fixes/changes.
Any experiences of how good these guys are ?

    Cheers

They haven't been mentioned on boards before but there is generally no particular need to do a pre-nct at all, just put through as is.
Afterwards get quotes from 2-3 places to fix whatever was failed, if anything.

That said you can avail of a free nct if you like, there's a few places that does them.
Just note that they will try to flog you tyres and other things you don't really need, Advanced pitstop are notorious for this too.
My advice is to do the free pre-nct but not have anything fixed until the real nct also have seen the car (unless it's lightbulbs).

Good advice Biko - I think I will put it through NCT and then see what needs to be done, as opposed to what COULD be done.

    Are you sure about that?

If you can pre-empt a failure due to bulbs and tyres, I would prevent this happening.
I agree not to give it to a garage to do, but have a look yourself and have what you can correct first.
You know, the easy stuff like fluids, bulbs, good tyres, hub caps off, a spare wheel (where appliciple), seatbelts and horn working.
You shouldn't need a garage for that.

Yes indeed, for many people it might be good to take it to a pre-nct because they haven't the first clue about cars and the pre-nct will catch small things like bulbs. Also the pre-nct might see coolant/oil is low.

It really depends on what is wrong with the car. I hope an owner with a couple of bulbs out or a balding tyre will have the cop on to change them her/himself, we shouldn't need a pre-nct for that stuff.

If it's free then there is no reason to not use it, just be aware that what they say it will fail on might not be a fail at the real nct.

If it's free then no harm. Some people just want to do the NCT and pass and not be messing around going back again.

I have used them for servicing, as have two others I know. All well so far, price was fine, work seems fine, place looks well organised. They do LPG conversions as well. They were previously based in 5 Mile Bridge, moved to Matthew Hill last year.
