      1. Don't think any vaccinations are necessary OR? 2. Who to fly with and from where? I live very rural Ireland, nearest airport, Kerry.

Is my first trip to the tropics and also my first long-haul holiday so just not the usual hop to Europe.

    1. Good link here: http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Travel-g147270-c62985/Cuba:Caribbean:Things.To.Know.Before.You.Go.html

    2. From Dublin via Paris (CityJet/Air France) or Amsterdam (Air Lingus/KLM) would be your best bet. Check skyscanner.ie for prices. Air France have a really good offer right now for Havana but only until June, but keep an eye out on both KLM and Air France sites as they usually repeat offers from time to time.

Vaccinations aren't necessary, but if you have any doubts, discuss it with your GP. I flew through Paris with Air France, and it was grand. It's a long journey from Paris to Havana, but it's not too bad. I don't know if they have any partnered airlines that fly form Kerry to Paris. it's helpful to book it all on one ticket in case of delays. I missed my connection on the way back, and was put on the next flight, and given a food voucher. If you book your flights separately you could end up paying a lot for a missed connection!

Hi ,we flew from Dublin via Paris, cityjet and klm I think, long flight and a long transfer on the other side to Varadero in quite an old mini bus. Got a tetanus vaccination and also one I think it might have been hepatitis a and typhoid.

I'm going to Cuba in early December - Air France, via Paris. The transfer times in CDG were easily the best - 1.5 hours on the way back versus, I think, 7ish hours via London or Amsterdam (although my return times have been changed recently, but still a much shorter transfer time). Fares were all much of a muchness when I booked.

According to the Travel Medical Bureau (or whatever they're called, the place just off Grafton St who do all the vaccinations) for normal, non-rural non-trekking holidays you need tetanus, typhoid and Hep A. I'm due to see my doctor soon anyway, so will see what he has to say about that.

    Can't wait!!!

Would you let me know what he reccomends and how much for them? There are some great deals departing from the Uk flying direct. What part are you going to?

    Will do.

We're flying to Havana, renting a car and doing our own thing around the top half of the island. None of us are into all-inclusive resorts, so we're just going to a few towns (not yet finally decided which), booking into a casa particular, and seeing whatever's to see. We'll have a few days at either end of the two weeks in Havana, which I'm VERY much looking forward to.

If anyone is reading this who has been to Cuba before, and has any recommendations for must-see places (in the north of the island!) - please feel free!!!

Booked with Aer Lingus + KLM a long time ago ( a bit allergic to the French ) , I had to commit as I tend to back out of long-haul travel plans. No vaccinations yet, think I will go for Hep A and Typhoid ( intending to make a few trips to S.America over the next few years if it was just a one off to Cuba I probably wouldn't) , doctor away till next week.

My main concern now is how cover myself for money while in Cuba. Have a thread about that here also. I'm not too happy to carry €2,000 in cash. Don't know if I can draw money from banks using debit/credit cards.
