Hi, can anyone recommend a decent mechanic that can source and fit a berlingo engine in the galway area.
    Thanks in advance.

Dempseys in Ballina deliver to galway. The park up opposite monaghans on the tuam road a few days a week. Traynors up north are supposed to be well priced but I've never used them. There is a van breakers out the the headford road : http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/carparts/4934927

What happened your engine? You should compare the price of a rebuild to a second hand one.

I can't recommend you any mechanics.

Cheers Ronnie, was told a clip came lose on the pipe bringing water into the radiator, pipe came off, engine overheated and is wreaked. Was told by 2 mechanics that I might get away with a new head and shiming but I would be safer to get a new engine. Dont know how true this is.
Thing is, the van is parked up at the back of my house and I cant afford to get it brought to garages for their opinion. Its a 06 van with only 85k so I want to get a decent engine(if it needs a new engine). I tried the two you mentioned but they only had engines with 120k and 130k.

Maybe they are reluctant to fit a new/recon head in case the block is damaged too so they are saying the safest option is to fit a new engine.

Whether or not the block/piston rings are damaged would depend on how long it was driven without coolant. AFAIK damage to the head occurs within minutes but it takes a while to effect the block.
