Purchasing 6 nations tickets

    Hi,

Could anybody please tell me, with regards to tickets for the 6 Nations 2014:

How much are tickets from the IRFU usually priced at?
At what time of year would they usually start going on sale at?
Is it true that the majority are reserved for clubs to sell to their members or is that just a rumour?
Is ticketmaster usually a reliable place for tickets when they do go on general sale and how quickly would they usually sell out?

    Thanks!

Certainly true that the clubs used to be virtually the only source. Less so now, I think. But still the best source.

Home matches in 2014 are against Wales, Scotland and Italy.

Tickets are sold initially through rugby clubs and then through the IRFU Supporters Club (http://supporters.irishrugby.ie/about_the_club.php?denied=supporters&deniedpage=/home.php)
If the Supporters Club don't sell their allocation, then the remainder will be put on general sale via ticketmaster.

There is a reasonable chance that a small number of tickets will go on general sale for the Italy game, an outside chance for the Scotland game and zero chance for the Wales game.

I don't think prices have been announced but you can expect to pay between €70 and €90 for a seat, more for a premium-level ticket and less for the 'restricted view' tickets (which aren't worth it).

Sometimes the so called restricted view seats are OK. I was at such an area at the SA game. At the top corner of the small end. The seat directly beside me was like almost double my price.

I generally get my tickets through the supporters club. They are typically among the worst tickets within a category.

For example, for the Croke Park years if you bought Hogan Upper through the supporters club you were at best behind the try line at the Canal End, and at worst in the corner, despite paying the same as people sitting between the 22s.

One year I picked up a couple of extra tickets for Ireland v France (the GS year) which went on sale much later, very close to the match, as returns and I got superb tickets in the Cusack upper. These were obviously returned club tickets.

The following year I got fed up with the corner and I bought Premium tickets, only to end up directly below my old corner, and in the back row with the stand above me severly restricting my visibility. I couldn't see the far corner of the pitch if I stood up, and I had to stand up when everyone else did, so I missed tries in real time.

I would still go to every match if I got better tickets, but you get tired of paying the same as other people for poor seats. There is not enough categories, and I say this in every survey I answer for the IRFU. I go to far less friendlies now (1 per autumn) as it's expensive to be paying for cat 1 tickets and getting seats that should be better.

2 years ago I got a Wales ticket through my brother's friend who works in a south Dublin school and got an excellent cat 3 ticket, in the nosebleeds but between the 22s. Enjoyed that view far more than many cat1 tickets I've had. I then bought tickets on general sale for the Italy match, getting really good cat 3 tickets again which were within 2 rows of cat 1 tickets, at a slightly lower angle in the lower stand.

So you have a couple of options:

    1. Join the supporters club and see what becomes available, one of:
    - 2 tickets for all 3 matches
    - 2 tickets for Wales/Italy package or 2 tickets Scotland/Italy package
    - 2 tickets for Italy match alone
or something like that, getting something among the worst seats within the category as a rule

    2. Get talking to people and try to identify someone who can get you tickets for a single match of Wales or Scotland, and wait for Italy tickets on Ticketmaster

I'm certainly going with option 2 again for next season. We had a good little gang for the Italy match in 2011, saw a couple of tries in our corner and even had a bit of sun on our faces for the day.

Clubs, sponsors, IRFU staff, officials and associated bodies such as referees get first dibs at tickets. The IRFU supporters club gets whatever tickets which aren't taken up, which as you have found, are not the best. As well, they will not be released till closer to the match which makes hotel booking that bit harder.

Or option 3, join a rugby club (and maybe be active in them as well) and apply through them each season rather than badgering and hoping that a member has a spare for you as per option two.

OP, tickets began at Eu 30 for Italy for their last visit and went up to about 90 for Wales and Scotland for Premium level.

Generally getting a ticket is just a stroke of luck unless you are connected in some way.

Also worth noting that the highest priced tickets aren't necessarily a better view.

The Irish Rugby Supporters Club gets an allocation per match PLUS any tickets not sold through branch allocation to clubs. Ticket news for Guinness Series coming shortly, by the way.

I wouldn't be so negative, I have generally had no issue with the tickets I recieve from the supporters club.

I disagree...although I supoose it depends what you mean by "connected"
I have gotten tickets for almost every home game going back about 10 years now

I have achieved this through two main avenues;firstly the IRFU Supporters Club and secondly as a Munster Season Ticket Holder

If this is being connected, fair enough!

In your position it isn't about being connected however it is about having to have splash out a few hundred euro in outlay just to be in with a chance of winning the right to buy a ticket, which isn't something everyone is in a position to do

its €50 a year to join the Supporters club

Ok I pay for the season ticket and as a result I get another channel but thats one of my main interests, it isn't paid over for the chance of an Irish ticket

Just wondering, do you think tickets will be available through supporters club before June 16th? I'm getting desperate at this stage, hoping to get 2 tickets for my husbands 40th bday for Australia or NZ game :o

That is what I meant by connected. :)

Someone who doesn't play for a club, who isn't a provincial ST holder, who isn't in the official supporters club is just going to have to get lucky if they want to get one.

a fairly harsh definition of connected then:D

    and what's wrong with that?

its supply and demand, if there is a lot of demand to fill Lansdowne road why shouldn't people involved in the game to some extent have an advantage?

    2 for NZ-only purchase.
4 for package incl. NZ game.
Wider limit (possibly 8-10) for Aussie and Samoa.

Same in Twickingham, Millenium and even Suncorp. You could sit in the Cusack stand at a rugby and be behind the goal.

Doesn't make it fair though Justin, when you pay a east/west stand price I expect to face east/west . It leaves a sour taste in the mouth when you end up behind the goal after forking out good money.

Not trying to be to be smart here but can you point out one modern stadium where the swing is actually charged differently to sections either side of it?
If everyone got the seat they wanted at a game, a stand would be 10m wide and 10km high.

I think Twickers is probably an example of a slightly better ticketing structure, i.e, that the corners are split 50:50:

Ooo la la, le Stade de France. This is exactly what I mean. I have been a member of the supporters club since 2007, and all cat 1 ticket purchases put me in the the equivalent to H, or the extremes of G.

Cat 1 below is a perfect example of where cat 1 should end in the aviva, and Cat 2 begin. Instead, when I buy tickets for an Ireland match, cat1, through the supporters club, I almost always get something that would be cat2 or cat3 in Stade de France, relative to the pitch position, distance from the actual pitch (due to the nature of Stade de France) notwithstanding.

No-one is asking for complete control of seat selection, just for fairness in categories. As I've said before, I will happily pay more than the current cat 1 prices if I can be sure I'm actually getting a good ticket.

There are still parts of those touchline stands behind the goalines in Stade de France (and in Twick).
If the same price structuring from the French soccer federation was applied to an Irish Six Nations game, for example, I would envisage the price for seats in 522-527 and 503-507 at the Aviva Stadium being increased as they are in Stade de France.

But not to the same extent as the southern end of the Aviva, I think it's fair to say.

Newbie to buying tickets via Supporters club and a bit confused by this. One part of Irish rugby.ie website is saying you will get a password from ticket master to buy tickets on the Thursday via Ticketmaster and the email from Supporters club states they go on sale at 10am Wednesday. Can anyone confirm when they go on sale.

    From Irish Rugby.ie website
The Irish Rugby Supporters Club is delighted to announce that tickets for the GUINNESS Series 2013 will go on sale on Ticketmaster.ie at 10am on Thursday, May 30.

With prices starting at just 7.50 euro and a saving of up to 20% on three match packs, this is a great chance to book your seat for Joe Schmidt's first games in charge of Ireland.

Ireland will play Samoa, Australia and New Zealand and Irish Rugby Supporters Club members can avail of a 24 hour priority 'early bird' ticket sale next Thursday at 10am.

Membership closes at midnight on Tuesday, May 28. Members will receive a password code from Ticketmaster on Wednesday, May 29 and the sale kicks off at 10am on Thursday, May 30.

The Supporters Club MatchDay Event -including match tickets, use of the Havelock Suite and a post match appearance from some of the team - takes place at Ireland v Samoa.

    Email from Irish Rugby.ie

    Supporters Club Ticket Sale

Ticket Prices for the Guinness Series 2013 against Samoa, Australia and New Zealand have been announced and with it comes news of a Supporters Club ticket early bird ticket sale offering you the chance to book your place for Joe Schmidt's first games in charge of Ireland.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Wednesday May 29th so sign up or renew your membership today and don't miss out.

The hugely popular Supporters Club Match Day Event will take place at the game against Samoa.

And, like I said, I will pay for that increase no problem. The reason I boycotted the first Autumn Internationals in the Aviva had more to do with the continuing category shenanigans and less to do with the price increase. It was a case of, "I'm not paying more for tickets when I know I'll be paying the same as people with far superior tickets"

Like I said, I'm fine with never being able to get my hands on a cat 1 ticket - them all going to clubs and sponsors, if I'm not charged the same to sit in the corner. Otherwise, I'll happily pay more for a ticket that is genuinely better than sitting in the corner.

What everyone I know is sick of is buying cat 1 tickets and ending up in the corner. I get that preferential tickets go to those working the in clubs on the ground and contributing to the game, and to those sponsoring the game in the country - they are the ones keeping the game alive, and this is fair.

What isn't fair, is pretending that the supporters club tickets have the same value as tickets between the 22s.

I got a cat 3 seat in 527 for the Wales match in 2012, and it was the best seat I've had for a 6 nations match, far better than any cat 1 I've sat in.

Nail on the head there mr derp. Justin I realise that every one wants to be between the 22s. But that's not the point I'm making. It's a pain knowing that you've paid the same as someone else who has a far superior seat.

It's the inequality of it that bugs supporters.

Someone in row AA will not be paying the same as someone in row Z in H6 at Stade de France, yet they're the next row. Same for seat 16 in section H11 compared with seat 1 in E14. Same goes for views.
Sitting in the south stand swing next to someone in the southernmost seat seat is practically the same view.

Not arguing with you on this, by the way. Just yapping. Its something that never bothered me really so long as I could see the game clearly. Same goes for gigs.

as long as you dont nudge me we will be fine :).

I know that there will be a cut off point as some stage, its the fact that the east/west stands run way too far behind the goals to be still called east./west.

for me there should be a different cat of tickets that are between the east /west stands and the behind the goal tickets.

There is too much of a disparity in the quality of the tickets that are been sold at the same price.

Hi got tickets for the last game in Cardiff the December before. A limited number of tickets went on general sale on their site http://www.wru.co.uk/eng/home.php. Sign up to their newsletter and ya should get an email if there's any tickets on sale. Even when we got over there one of my mates got one pretty handy for face value.
