I've had good experiences with Wiggle, CRC and Evans. I use Wiggle most often. Handy for parts, accesories etc. Clothing is better value too, however you don't have the opportunity to try before you by as you do with the LBSs.

I use Chain Reaction over Wiggle when I can.

Wiggle have upset have upset me twice on their packaging of my orders. Once resulted in the sleeve of a hard cover book being ripped and second time a gel burst in the packaging. Basically both items were left bounce around in a big box without any filling to prevent damage.

On top of that, I traveled up to Belfast to buy my bike and the sales in CRC were super with advice.

Both sites have free or next to free postage anyways.... and I use parcel motel - dead handy.

I keep promising myself to try buy local but sometimes time and range prevents me.

alot of shops aren't that bad, some are but we won't name names, I know the likes of Think Bike and Joe Dalys, are occasionally marginally more, have on occasion beaten online prices, they remember you when you return (and you find you get slightly better deals when they do remember you which do beat online for price and speed).

I tend to use on-line more because I'm rarely around cycling shops. I usually check prices between cyclesuperstore.ie, bike-discount.de, wiggle and CRC, and use cyclesuperstore if there's not much in it. More recently, I've also used tweaks and JE James for getting a few awkward small bits and bobs that the others didn't carry, also good service in both cases. For any large purchase, it's worth checking a number of on-line sites and asking your LBS if they'll match the price or do a deal of some kind.

Have to say, as much I love the LBS, Wiggle have been great whenever I've had a hiccup. I sent back an incorrect item recently, but didn't realised I should've put in a returns form or the original order number, just wrote the support case number on the outside.

After some confusion (because I'd been a ninny), they found the item and sorted it all. And before when my rear dérailleur was damaged spontaneously, they replaced all the parts free of cost.

+1 on SMACL's first reply (not the crying !) I use CCS when there is not much in it for parts and bits and pieces. They are very helpful with service queries and have often sorted me out with small bits and pieces for no charge. I like to support them where I can they also offer discounts for account holders.

CRC have been very good and dealt promtly with a complaints on a crankset I bought which in fairness they could have been awkward about but were anything but.

I have also purchase from Bike24.com which is a German site and they have very good value, there is a 10 euro postage charge however that you need to consider.

So support your LBS when you can and don't quibble over a few Euro if it gets the job done.

If you're going to buy online and you're not not in mad rush then the German sites are the cheapest these days! Bike Components (for MTB gear), Bike Discount and Bike 24 are all very good in my experience but all do charge for delivery so best to buy a few things at a time!
