Saorview TV with a DVB-S Tuner?

Was looking around this week for a Saorview TV with a DVB-S Tuner but failed to find one. Currys, Powercity etc etc never seem to have DVB-S tuners in their TV like most of our European counterparts.

I understand the reasons for that but I would still prefer the new TV I buy to have one and so looking for recommendations if anyone has any.

I like the look of this one for €399:

    However, it does say:

"Please note this TV is a European model and will not receive UK Freeview HD channels"

So. does the above mean if I buy it from that site, the DVB-T tuner in it will be different to one the one in the version Powercity are selling (which is Saorview approved)?

Powercity have a few with satellite tuners: LG, Walker & Cello models in various screen sizes.

The ones in Powercity tend to just have fta sat tuners i.e. Now/Next and no guide. If you're looking for one with Freesat built in you could try the ES6300 series from Samsung. I think these are recently discontinued. They are a bit of the pricey side but will record to a HDD etc.. link

Powercity have an F6500 Samsung. No mention of Freesat.

The LG on the Conrad site should be able to decode Saorview video. Obviously, with the non-approved model, you lose the guarantee of trouble-free Saorview now & in future.

As far as I know Freeview HD and Saorview use the same MPEG4 encoding. The conrad TV may only handle MPEG2 (which Freeview SD uses) so may not work with Saorview.
Anything which has a DVB-T2 tuner should be safe though.

Over in the Richersounds forum, it was mentioned the new LG 2013 series have an inbuilt satellite tuner. You could always put in a request there to see what they have.

The advantage of the Samsung ES6300 (and above) models is that they have Freesat so 7 day guide. Still need to switch between sources though to move between saorview and satellite though.

Currys, Powercity etc etc never seem to have DVB-S tuners in their TV like most of our European counterparts.

I posted this in a similar thread recently with links to the Powercity website indicating TVs with both Saorview and satellite tuners - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=84653880#post84653880

If you're in any of the large stores like Currys have a look at the connectors at the back of the TVs, those with on board satellite tuners will have a screw-on F-connector in addition to the standard aerial co-ax input. I've seen both LG and Toshiba TVs with them in Currys last year (I'd guess the staff probably won't have a clue).

Highly unlikely in a current model from a big-name maker.

That would imply that the tuner is DVB-T as opposed to DVB-T2. Shouldn't be a problem unless you were picking up Freeview from Wales or NI. If you're looking for satellite then I'd assume you aren't.

    Hi there,

I have seen the Samsung 37ES630 saorview & satellite tv that requires the pressing of channel list followed by red aerial to go between freesat & saorview.

If the other LG & Walker tvs operate as FTA combo tv's without 7 day epg can the channels be stored in one seamless list or are there multiple key presses to go between saorview and fta satellite channels as in the samsung 37ES630?

    Any help appreciated.
