Has anyone got experience with both? It seems when I google all I get is fanboy arguments for and against :<

I have always found Sli to be more reliable, better support and updates.

I encountered a few problems with 7850 Crossfire that I don't have with my GTX590 in the same games (which is essentially two GTX580's).

Crossfire has too many latency issues at the moment. You will get higher frame rates in most cases but it's plagued by latency issues which give a laggy feel to a lot of games.

I'm sure ati are working on driver fixes for this atm so it may not be as much of an issue soon but atm I'd go with sli if going multi gpu.

I'm running 2 6950s (the 1gb versions) in Crossfire. Every time a new AMD driver OR Battlefield 3 update has come out, the game becomes unplayable for me until a CAP gets released (and a couple of times, that hasn't helped at all). It's been quite disappointing in that regard and has been the main reason I'm not playing BF3 every night. I've noticed it a little in other games such as Far Cry 3 and Assassins Creed 3 - I don't tend to have things maxed - usually I'm playing at 1080 res with 2x or 4X anisotropic filtering and textures on their second highest option. Crysis 3 was smooth as far as I recall, as was Skyrim (with mods turning everything up to 11), so it's a mixed bag.

I've built SLi systems for other people, have never had a chance to get stuck in first hand though, so I can't make a comparison.

    I've run 2 6950s (2gb OC versions) and now running a Gtx690.

both have done their job well. I think I had issues with AMD on a game once, but it couldn't have been that bad cause I can't remember what the problem was or which game even lol, but there was something..

nvidia, by my experience anyway, has a lot more fps "range**", but it's difficult to compare, as the Gtx690 has more power, runs at boosts according to temps and game etc.

**with vsync off, my 6950s ran at steadier, but lower fps in games, whereas the Gtx690 in BF3 for instance went from 70 - 130fps spikes all the time.

honestly, AMD has caught up a lot in drivers that they shouldn't be ruled out. a friend runs 6970CF and another 7870CF with no complaints. the zerocore feature is also excellent. nvidia is definitely quieter this gen though.

the dodgy game was BF3 and it was a combination of a bad driver and Troll PC. I dont think the 7870CF rig has had a driver update since september of last year even

There's quite a few dodgy performing games under crossfire especially when running at 1440p. The frame latency goes through the roof. It goes up with Nvidia cards as well but nowhere near as bad.

    interesting.

I honestly havent been keeping up with CF/SLI performance in a while, and the 6950's were quite a long time ago, so I cant really vouch for much tbh.

Guess all i can confirm is the GTX 690 is excellent at 1440p :P

Frame latency testing is pretty new. Nobody knew about it before.
