~€900 Gaming PC build

Hi lads, after a long time console gaming looking to upgrade to the PC race :pac: Budget is about €900, would prefer to not go over that but if a small bit over budget is worthwhile I'll stretch for it. I dont have a suitable monitor so I'm aware that may take a chunk out of the budget?

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming/internet/itunes] (ex. Battlefield, Skyrim, FPS and RPG mainly

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [I have a disc with windows 7 pro 64-bit, it came with a dell laptop but I used it to install bootcamp windows on my MBP. Can I use that for this build?]

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Nope

5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes]

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [22'/24' would be great]

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? N/A

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard & Mouse, I've read on this forum that homeplugs would be better than a wireless card?

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [Yes]

8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/paypal]

9. When are you purchasing? [In next week or two]

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [In galway but looking forward to trying to build this myself!

An intel build. Had to drop a ssd to get near the budget but it could be got at a later stage. No keyboard either as the German layout is different.

Homeplugs are better yes but also more expensive and may have issues depending on how your house is wired.

Thanks for the builds bloodbath! I'm liking the look of the intel build, at the moment I'm prepared to sacrifice the SSD, I'd take the storage over the snappier speeds. If the homeplugs may not work I'm fine with the WLAN card which I see you've added

Will the dell disc mentioned in the OP work on this build for windows 7?

Could I replace that standard disc drive with a blu-ray one in the future?

Lastly, could I replace the case in your build with say something like this, I like the flashy cases

Sorry for what could be nooby questions, seeing all the parts listed is getting me excited about ordering this!

No problem.

The disk should work. If not you can download windows and put it onto an 8gb usb stick and use the windows key from the disk.

You can add a blu ray drive at any stage yes.

And yes you can go for whatever case you like. Make sure its an atx case though which that one is.

The Z75 is a pretty close match , there is very little difference between the two chipsets

Not too familiar with most of the other coolers around the same price range, a few of the go to alternatives are also out of stock.

A quick look around of some reviews for the 412S suggests its pretty close in performance to the 212 (A degree or two worse in the load tests in this review but practically the same). The Scythe Grand Kama Cross (also in the review above), is about the same price and would be fine as well. I can't see that something like the Scythe Ninja 4 is worth an extra fiver based on that.

Hey again, I said I'd come back with some pics when it arrived. It came yesterday in 3 parcels but only got to build it today due to work commitments :rolleyes:









Currently installing a few games to give it a whirl, emailed HWVS about the promotional games that come with the GPU but no reply, will give them a few day before ringing!

ha yeah was supposed to go with the 212 evo but it was out of stock when I ordered so I went with the scythe grand kama, cool looking cooler but its massive, was a small chore getting it on the mobo
