Is it best to avoid entry level wheels

    Whenever i need a replacement wheel for my roadbike (normally because my wheel is stolen or very out of true, I always pick up the cheapest wheel in the bike shop.

    Like recenty, I replaced a couple of wheels for about €80, unbranded.

    And to be fair, the new wheels run nice and true, and they are very fit for purpose.

    Are cheap wheels much slower than expensive wheels for a given power output ? Would they wear out more quickly ?

    Wheels tend to just get lighter the more expensive they get,the bearings and hubs spin smoother too of course, but a lot of people are obsessed with getting the weight on their bikes down as low as they can.

    Before you start worrying about the weight of your wheels and headset spacers, see if there are a few kg's of belly you could get rid of first.

    If you're already a featherweight and want more gains, then yeah, fine, get some blingy new wheels.
