i have a firebird oilboiler with underfloor heating,i have a seperate digital stat in each room controling the zone temp, the problem i have is that even with all the stats turned off the boiler is still comming on/off in 10 minute cycles.surley with the heating turned off the boiler shouldnt look for oil. i have experemented by unplugging the the power to the boiler and obviously this stops the boiler but then we run out of hot water even though we have solar panels which we were told were for the domestic hot water,

can anyone help because its using a lot of oil

Sounds like a control issue - if all stats are satisfied the boiler should not fire. First make sure your hot water cylinder isn't calling for heat then contact your installer. you're right, the boiler should only run when it gets a run signal from the control system, i.e. one of your room stats or the DHW calling for heat. There is something wrong with the controls if they are constantly giving a run signal(or the set-up - was it always like this?). Has there been any damage to any of the stats, wiring or valve actuators? Does everything look ok on your controller?

its a new house system was only installed 18 monts ago we had small faults with some stats showing on/off at the same time but we got them replaced, there is no damage to actuators, but i dont know where the controller is,ive had the plumber who installed it out several times and he cant find the problem,he wants to put a timer on the boiler but i dont think this is the solution

It seems like the boiler may running on its own stat and the individual zone stats are bringing on each actuator when required. Sounds like you need to istall a relay that will switch on the boiler (and pump as appropriate) when one of the zones calls for heat. Maybe there is one there already but it's not working correctly?

You mentioned your plumber was thinking of putting a timer in this of course would stop yor boiler when you don't want it running but do you already have some form of time control?

ok, hope you get sorted. ask for detailed explanation of how the control system operates snd what everything does. If you don't have them already, ask for copies of the manuals for each piece of kit installed. I would ask for a copy ofthe wiring plan used too. you need all this incase of future issues

it might sound crazy but any chance you have a frost stat set too high or gone faulty it will after all have a permanent live

I'm with Jim, if its a Firebird outdoor modular boiler it will have a frost stat.

Try disconnecting the stat on the water cylinder. Also move it down lower. Is the boiler heating the solar panels?
