Where are the Direwolves? *CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM BOOKS - BE WARNED*

The direwolves were a huge part of the books, yet they haven't had much of a presence this season. It's really starting to bug me as at least two of them play a huge role in the wedding at the Twins. There is a big deal made of the fact that the Frey's wont allow Rob to have his direwolf with him at the wedding and they sow it's head onto Rob as a final humiliation. Arya starts seeing the world through her direwolf, which she had presumed dead and it's through Nymeria that Arya discovers Catelyn is dead. To be honest, I had nearly forgotton about them completely until I was thinking about what is to come ahead.

from a filmmaking perspective Id imagine it is cost related. They have started using CGI for them and that aint cheap.

The wolves are really my favorite characters in the books, would be nice if they made more appearances in the show. Be a real shame to lose them from the story.

Ghost has vanished into the woods (was he in the first episode?). shaggy dog and summer made a cameo in one episode. Nymeria hasnt been referred to since S1 and I dont recall seeing grey wind yet.

But summer and grey wind do play a big part in the upcoming plots so hopefully they will be seen.

Grey Wind had a scene when Jaime was Robb's captive.

    not in s3 tho?

dont know why but I cant seem to remember if GW has been in S3 or not.
Either way, using these characters as background is a bit of a let down from what they are in the book.

I could have sworn there was a short clip of him earlier in the season but I can't remember when exactly.

I find Ghost's absence more annoying than Grey Wind though I have to say.

Early days Paddy. We shouldn't have seen Nymeria yet and we had a few shots of Grey Wind at Riverrun. Grey Wind will have to be seen at the Twins as his death indicates the finality of Robb lifeforce and to not show Grey Wind dead would suggest that Robb could possibly live on when later warg abilities are divulged. So we will see a wolf corpse at least.

I tend to accept the show and appreciate what they are doing. The books will always be superior as the human imagination has no time, contract or budget constraints. Looking at the preview there should be plenty of Summer in the next episode.

Grey Wind has been seen in the background a couple of times, but his / her general absence has been explained; Robb has previously said that Talisa is frightened of the wolf, so he keeps them separated.

Hopefully will get a bit more time in the last couple of episodes, as her presence is fairly crucial to Brans development. Arya warging into Nymeria would be a pretty fantastic way to end the season aswel!

If i remember correctly, Ghost was in episode 1 - when Sam was about to be attacked by the Other.

Thanks, I must have missed that. It will be interesting to see how they go with Arya. She should have been having dreams by now, like Bran is with the crow.

I can accept not seeing Ghost as he is on the other side of The Wall to Jon.

Yeah both Jon and Arya should have been warging in their dreams by now.

There can't be any possibility of Robb coming back unless they deviate drastically from the books. Both Robb and Grey Wind are killed at the wedding.

That's my point. They have to show them both dead.

IIRC Ghost has been in all the seasons up to season 3 but i cant remember seeing him(?) this season? agreed it is slightly annoying that they dont have a bigger part in the show compared to the books

Summer was in the scene where Bran meets the Reeds for the first time.

I don't think the problem is that they haven't appeared, they have a little, but that they no longer seem important in the show.

This. That's what is bugging me more - they are integral to plotlines and character development in the books but so far they've just been occasional window dressing in the HBO series.

The lack of Wolf dreams for Arya and Jon is slightly annoying but what is much worse is the lack of Summer in Brans storylines. Considering that Summer is a vital part of this storyline in the book. The limited use is very disappointing.

This has been hugely disappointing to be honest, they are mentioned nearly every chapter that involves a Stark in the books but are in maybe 2 episodes a season. I'm re-reading the books like a lot of you and even the first book compared to the series there is a huge difference. Must be budget related I guess :(

To be honest, they were never important in the show. I remember people complaining about this during season 1. It's just they've been given even less screen time this season.
