When to book Thailand

Hi, I'm hoping to travel to Ko Samui for a wedding in December 2014.

Plenty of notice, so we want to get the best value. I'll be traveling with my wife and 2 kids.

What I'd like to know is should we book a package deal? And if so when is the best time to book?

Or... would it work out cheaper to book regular flights and perhaps rent a bungalow? And again, when would be the best time to do this?

    Thanks

Book when your ready, don't wait to long dec its high season, it all depends on the package you want I'd always book independent, you can find some lovely places at a decent price but as your travelling with your family maybe package would be better. But you will pay top €, don't forget it's cheap enough to eat out. Plus Bangkok is probably one of the cheapest airports to fly into from Ireland/uk. Have a look at ko Samui trip advisor and see the hotels they have to offer that'll give you a good feel to go package or independent. Also emirates eithad and Malaysian alway do good prices from Ireland but you have to keep an eye on there sites for deals.

You won't be able to book flights more than a year in advance so there's not a lot you can do right now.

A lot of travel companies to Thailand will offer the same amount of days free as you want to purchase, so lets say you want to go for 10 days, then look for booking 5 and getting 5 free. It halves the cost (in your mind) but it actually works out roughly the same cost as if you booked it direct yourself, so there is some comfort knowing you are getting a good deal with prices and accommodation included.

Routing Dublin via Amsterdam to Bangkok (and then onto Koh Samui) will normally offer the cheapest flights with China Airlines (Airbus A340). Nice Aircraft.

An alternative that is reducing prices are Dublin via Dubai to Bangkok with either Ethiad or Emirates (can't remember) and you will probably get on a Boeing 777 then an Airbus A380.
