normal treatment is for a week /10 days... we had 1 a few weeks ago, gave him 10cc of betamox for 10 days and bathed the navel with salt and water, could see an improvement after day 3... do you sit him up on his butt to bathe it? needs a good washing each time... i used the water bottles and sprayed it right into the navel

we had 1 that picked up infection after birth (long story(

took nearly 3 months to come right,

I prefer Noroclav , if it's draining away it will take time, just watch for flies from now on

Yes noroclav is what I used for swollen naval as well. Even with noroclav it does take a good while to come right. I had a lot of trouble with navels last year the iodine i had was well past used by date

I had one with it this year as well. It was noroclav I used and it took a good bit longer than the recommended 10 days to clear it. Keep injecting until it goes was the vets advise.

I got the second bottle from the vet and finished it before my calf was ok.

One thing to remember about Navel Ill and Joint Ill, and to a lesser degree all the calf-hood diseases is that you are dealing with a calf with ZERO innate immune system capability.

If it has not received biestings it has NO immunity worth a damn.

Badly sick calves that haven't received enough biestings can not be saved with antibiotics. ANY antibiotics!

    Read that again:

The benefits of colostrum, the amount and timing have been preached for so long it's become 'old hat' and lip-service paid to it. It's still true!

Calves need a longer course of antibiotics than older immune-competent animals.

The instructions on one of the IBR vaccines was that if you were giving it to a calf under 4 (maybe 6) months of age then once they reached that age the primary course had to be started from scratch. This is the proof of the pudding.
