Hi guys and experienced bettors. I've been thinking at which sportsbook should I make my first deposit. I've heard some of them will top up your first deposit with extra amount or percentage. Is this true? While I like promises, I also don't want to compromise on small earnings or slow payouts. Which among them offers the best and fastest payouts? One that's reliable and has no history of fraud... I'll do my research too and maybe we can compare notes. :D

For the recreational gambler (98%) Bet365 is your best option for number of games and range of markets. They also offer one of the best bonuses in the industry (100% up to €200).

Paddy Power also have a wide range of matches and markets and will allow you to lodge and withdraw in the shops if you either can't or choose not to deposit to bookmakers with your credit card.

If you only bet singles on the more common markets (win-draw-win, o/u 2.5 goals) then Betfair would be your best option.

All bookmakers will take 3-5 working days for withdrawal to your bank account, if you setup a Paypal or Moneybookers account the withdrawal can often be a matter of minutes for Bet365/Marathon and 188bet.

You can get a card to withdraw your funds from on moneybookers, but there absolute ***** for verifying. They want hd photos of your passport.

@PunterAssist: Just checked out Bet365. 100% deposit is a great deal! The website's a little slow, though, I hope it won't affect my future transactions with them.

I like paddy power, think it's fast and yes, they have a wide range of events, too. They also have a money back guarantee for certain bet types. Example: Money back if Lewandowski scores last in Champions League. Ha!

Betfair's £25 refund is great but what if i bet more than 25, does it mean they will only refund the 25 if i lost on my first bet?

Hey, thanks for this info! Have you set up your own moneybookers account? How long does the verification **** take?

It took a while due to me not having all the necessities but make sure to have copies of your passport, bank statement and a bill for proof of residence and it will all be sorted in no time. I've been using moneybookers for years now and its fantastic. If you register and become a VIP member you get points per transaction.

They're doing a 5x transaction for the last 2 months or something and I've managed to get over 120k points with them

Meaning if I want I can get something nice from the shop for free :D

They also have a shopping site where they give you cashback, bonuses and discounts for using their card with a purchase. For sites such as Dell, Groupon and loads of hotel/travel companies.

There are fees though for using the site, all of which are minimal, but if you become a VIP they become pretty much obsolete.

Overall I've absolutely loved using them, the mastercard is excellent, the customer service is fantastic, the rollover specials are great, and the quick transactions and lack of a betting history on your bank statement is brilliant.

Here's a list of the benefits:

@paddyg91: wow, this is worth a try, thanks man! i hope the application process goes smoothly for me.

In any case, I also did some research on other sports books and found some (BetVictor, BetFair & SBOBET) to have pretty good reviews from other clients. Now i got a shortlist. Thanks to all your replies!

BetVictor will ban you as soon as you show you've any concept of knowledge, only bet in play with them so you can keep the account for a while. Pre-Game bets with them will get you banned quickly, in fact I was banned after 1 bet.

Betfair is okay, but if you like betting on smaller games often they don't have high liquidity due to people not laying volumes on them.

SBObet are great for high volume betting and rarely ban, but its hard to turn a profit on them as they may often have the best odds, but rarely will they have the best odds on a winning bet. The Euro books tend to have that, as on the asians the prices are normally smashed in by smart bettors or asian syndicates smashing prices where there will no longer be value for the average punter.

The best books to have are:
    Bet365 (largest volume of games)
    WilliamHill (good selection of games)
Ladbrokes (high volume allowed to be bet)
188bet (best of the asian books in regards to selection of bets)

Paddy Power have ****e odds, decent specials which are always worth backing to lay off on betfair for profit.

StanJames have good odds but you'll be limited in no time, use the clone books like betpack to continue getting value.

Tipico steer clear off. 10bet STAY AWAY.

Betway, Boyles, Bwin, SportingBet and Betsson are all decent books.

Marathon are an excellent book if you bet small.

@paddyg91: Wow, BetVictor obviously wants to play it safe, huh. Betfair doesn't want to pay attention to small bets. It's not for me, I guess.

But wait, I got lost in SBOBET. You're saying SBOBET offers the best football odds, but not the best value on the winning bets because huge volume bets from other bettors tend to skew the odds? Can you illustrate how this happens?

Thanks also for the tips on which sports books to avoid and which ones to have. Really appreciate it! :D

Betfair pay attention to small bets, its just they don't offer odds, punters do, its someone else laying you odds rather than them. And with smaller games less people offer odds on them, most back bigger games with higher volumes available.

Sbobet offer high payout percentages, like around 97%, and example being here:
    http://www.oddsportal.com/soccer/europe/euro-u21-2013/spain-russia-EwkHHwqe/

Over/Under 2.5 goals. Sbobet offer 1.79 on Over 2.5, while offer 2.12 for unders. The average is 1.73 for overs and 2.07 for unders, you can see other books offer up to 1.80 for overs and 2.20 for unders. You can tell by the average the value is on unders due to the industry average being lower than the best priced odds.

What exactly I mean is, that on markets like this, more punters will back the unders bet, meaning that their price for unders is lower than the best available, they offer 2.12 while its available other places at 2.20, meaning punters have taken the value out of unders on their site.

They offer best odds on prices which have been raised due to punters backing the other side of the bet. The more money they have on unders, the better the odds for overs will get. So a lot of the time, because they have people backing unders they will have a better price for overs, meaning that they will have the best odds, but effectively not the best bet. Do you understand?

    No problem

Alright, I understand it now. So that's how this backing thing works. On the surface though, they still appear to have the best odds-- though not necessarily mean winning bets and turning a profit. Interesting enough. I might put this theory under the microscope when comparing odds and profit.

    Massive thanks for your insights!

Betfair also have a Sportsbook for the last few months which is excellent as you can bet on the Exchange and on the Sportsbook! Getting to be a pretty great site now with that addition and competing with the likes of Hills/365.

You'll notice the odds they offer on the sportsbook are awful though!

No worries, I sort of went around it a weird way of explaining but think of it like this, a site may have better odds on all the losing bets, but its not value as those bets will lose more.

Wow, they do look the same LOL! Thanks for the heads-up. I viewed their About Us page and there's not much in there. I think it'd be safe to go for the more established ones. :D
