Staking someone to bet on your behalf

    I'd be grateful for any comment on the following:

    It was stated on an old thread that "staking someone" in poker is tax free - is this correct? That is to say that if you were to earn money by bankrolling a person betting on your behalf, there is no tax liability on the winnings?
