ok a few years ago my mate bought a van a was trying to get some work as a self employed courier, had the van about 8 months but didn't actively pursue work, then went looking to get some business and got an accountant to register him as self employed, the accountant registered him as self employed from the date he bought the van (8 months previous) as it transpired not much work around so he found himself a paye job, now he is getting letters from revenue looking for tax returns for the last few years but even though registered never actually done any self employed work, what should he do ? he doesn't really have the money to go to an accountant

File the returns like they are asking. If you need help with that pay an accountant.

what am i looking for here ?

You are looking for the answers to your various questions I assume.

Scroll down to "What rate and amounts of PRSI do I have to pay?".

There is even a phone number there you can ring with queries.

Just gonna hijack this for a sec. What would be the standard fee that an accountant would charge to submit a unfiled tax return from a few years back if the company was not trading during that period.

Posters are not allowed to give tax advice here, even if it's simple.

Ring the tax office and ask them!
