Is it OK to sunbathe/swim at a different hotel to the one I've booked abroad?

    Hi,

Booked a holiday for this week in the sun. Wanted to go to same hotel I was in last year but it wasn't vacant so I booked the one right next door.

Is it Ok do ye reckon to wander up to the other hotel the odd day to sit out/swim for a while or what's the normal policy with these hotels abroad?

We'd be eating/drinking at their pool so I couldn't see it being a problem.

    Any ideas..

    Thanks

Nearly all hotels are fine with this, so long as you make a few purchases at there pool bar.

Varies hugely from hotel to hotel. Some have very open policies others not so at all. My parents had rented an apartment in Spain independently with other family members staying in a nearby hotel. My parents went to meet them and even to go into the hotel bar they had to be signed in by residents. 4* hotel near Malaga.

Other hotels I've stayed in around the world have had the pools and sunbathing decks in areas accessible only with guest keys.

It varies hugely from hotel to hotel, resort to resort, country to country imo. Perhaps if you gave some indication of what city/country/resort you are going to, people could give you more definite replies.

On my last sun holiday abroad, the hotel I stayed at was very strict as to who could and could not access their pool area. A couple of the neighbouring hotels had pools areas that were always in the shade of other hotel buildings. So my hotel had a lot of drop in guests from these hotels. All these additional people really clogged up the pool area and loungers.

Even though they were spending money at the pool side bars & restaurants, their presence impacted the ability of genuine guests of the hotel to enjoy the facilities, so the hotel began to take steps to ban non guests from the pool area. If the hotel that you are booked into has a dingy pool area, but the hotel next door has a gorgeous one, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they take steps too to keep the non paying guests out too.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to Gran Canaria, Amadores to be precise.. It's a quiet place very close to Puerto Rico so there's only a few hotels in this actual resort. They won't be too clogged up with people.

The only reason I want to go to the other hotel's pool during the day is because it's up on a height over-looking the beach, whereas the hotel I've booked into, albeit a very nice one, is a bit further back from the beach and hasn't got the views..

    Last year we stayed here

and as you can see from their photos the views are nice.

This year we are staying here

Both hotels are right beside each other but the one I'm staying in this year is just a bit behind in and in a bit of a dip..

    Thanks again
