I am considering putting in a bid for 5 acres of land which has come up locally for 9-11months. The land is old meadow type, stock proof and has been grazed by horses for the last year so is a bit overgrown with ferns etc around the edges. The plan is to graze it down, top it, fertiliser and then get some silage of it later in the year. This land also has no water trough but there may be a way of getting a trough put in. Anyways my question is how much should I be willing to pay for this land for 9-11 months? Thanks in advance!

All depends on what part of the country your in.Im in the North West around €70 an acre for average land. How do you plan to make any money on 5 acres? You would need to have at least a 3 year lease on it in order to submit it with SFP.

Horses are very good to eat old grass, and clean a place... But they leave the ground hungry I think... So if there was horses in the place last year, I dunno would it be very rich this year after them...
And if you only have it for 9 - 11 months, you wont be able to do much with it...
    Just my two cents...
