    Hi all,

Kinda newish to detailing, I'd do the two bucket method,

    Rinse
Use autoglym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner to wash
    Dry with a leather shammy
Polish with autoglym super resin polish

With regards to starting with a clay bar, what would be a good kit to start with? I've had the car 3 years, I've never clayed it, previous owner was a woman, doubt it was clayed then either, and then am I missing ant little steps?

    Cheers,
    Gillen

Any of the clay kits are good. Check out detailingworld.co.uk too.

Maybe have a read through the thread which outlines my recent experience.

I got some good advice in there about de-taring your car before claying. And which Clay to start with.

Note, the picture shows that I got "Turle Wax Refine n' Shine" (they were out of meguiars quick clay starter kit that day) I went back the next weekend and exchanged the turtle wax for the Meguiars.

    It's a Wine coloured Citroen C4 right? '06?

De-taring your car will make claying ALOT easier. If you're on a budget, use a white cotton cloth soaked in petrol. do one panel at a time, and rinse and wash as you go. (use a white, or un-died cloth; the petrol will leach the colour from a coloured cloth)(also, washing the petrol off before it dries in is important as petrol contains additives along with those hydro-carbons)

Then for the claying, I used the Meguiars Quik Clay starter kit that I got from Halfords for £16.99.

Great reviews as far as quality is concerned, HOWEVER; as the car had never been clayed before ('07 Golf) there was a fair amount of contamination (and hence resistance) which means I had to use alot of the detailer spray (the lubricant) and I ran out. Also, you only get 50g of the clay in this kit - I cut it in half and still have the other half.

It's a good kit like, but I wouldn't get it again, too expensive for what you get. The Bilt Hamber Clay's have outstanding reviews around different forums and they only require WATER as the lubricant as opposed to expensive detailer spray. Next time i'll be getting a bar of their medium clay from an online retailer.

In the previous clay thread I mentioned I got a cheap 3M one from eBay. Came from China in a week or two.

It did a good job of cleaning up the paint on my '06 Civic. For a lube I used warm soapy water in a spray bottle, and made sure not to be too hard on the pretty thin Honda paint. It did a good job of clearing all the muck out of my paint.

When you've finished going over a section, run your hand over it to see if you can still feel any other bits left on there. It takes a while to clay a car but it's worth it. I'm actually ready to clay mine again when I can find a day...
