Battery clock head scratcher - any ideas?

    Hi

Have a battery clock - cheap old wall clock but recently it's been running fast. Have changed the battery in it but still seems to be going fast by about 3 minutes a day.

Going to get a new one but wondered if anyone would know why this would happen. It seems strange that a 1.5V clock would go like this - thought that the mechanism in it would only go at the correct speed.

Mods - if you think this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it :)

The only thing I can think of is that the mechanical gears are worn and slipping when turning. I think that you are right in that the quartz timing / pulse itself will either fine or not - but cannot go fast or slow. When the battery goes below a certain power level it will fail to move and stop - but it wont go either fast or slow. So it can only be the mechanical gears that are affecting the speed of the clock ?

Thanks for replying - had completely forgotten about this post lol

Yeah, think it has to be mechanical in some way because as you said the quartz crystal would either work or not. But was thinking, if the gears had worn or slipped the clock would either stop or slow down. But it's now showing as 2:54AM - and my computer is showing 2:42. This is since wed evening when I synced them.

Think I've got a possessed clock lol
