Tutoring for entrance exam

    Hi.

I'm a secondary school teacher but have been asked to tutor a 6th class pupil coming up to her entrance exam.

I have to admit I know very little about entrance exams. I've never heard of tutoring for them either.

I was thinking about prepping her on planning questions, time management and some writing. I might use some 1st year/ 2nd year English textbooks.

Does this sound like the right direction?

The type of entrance tests I am familiar with as a primary teacher are more like aptitude tests, verbal reasoning and multi choice answers in Maths. Irish has not been tested in recent years. So, practise at verbal reasoning etc would be beneficial.

In recent years tests usually consist of verbal reasoning, aptitude tests, multi choice answers for Maths and no Irish! Practise at those kinds of tests would be beneficial. The traditional essay writing and long comprehension pieces seem to be gone. Too much correcting, perhaps?

II found out it's actually the British CE test the child will sit so I'll look up those. Thanks for your help.
