I put on some fertiliser this evening on fields which will be grazed by cows in the next week or 2. However I noticed that the fields badly need to be sprayed for thistles once the fields are grazed. Will I lose any benefit of the fertiliser by spraying for thistles in the next week or so?

I would think spraying right after grazing, when the green leaf of the grass is eaten, would really help minimise the negative impact of the spray on grass regrowth.
I'm planning on doing the very same thing myself, if I can ever get a dry calm evening to coincide with the cows finishing in a particular strip which needs spraying.

If it is only thistles you want to get rid of wait until it is grazed if there are other weeds such as dandaloin, daisy etc you need to spray about a week before grazing. Spreading fertilizer will actually help prevent the grass getting checked. Also if you spray after grazing (straight after they leave the field) the clover if any has a good chance of surviving.

Biggest issue at present is that Grass may be checked a little.
