Car diagnostics software problems

    Hi all,

I have a diagbox peugeot planet package that runs only on XP 32 bit. I created a virtual machine on my windows 7 laptop (Lenovo T410 i5) and loaded up xp. I have installed the diagbox software (and the drivers for the cable) but when I connect it to the car, it says that there's another program using the cable. I'm guessing that it may be that windows 7 is seeing the cable also but there's no point in disabling the com port in windows 7 dev manager as there will be nothing for me to pipe through to xp.

I've resorted to shinking my 7 volume and creating an XP partition. However, the xp partition is an F drive and the diagbox software will only install to C: (No way to change it!) I can't change the drive letter because there is some 100mb system partition labeled as C: when I boot to XP.
Another really annoying problem is that I have to keep changing the SATA mode in the bios to "compatibility" when I boot to XP, even though I have installed all the drivers for the xp install.

I had all this working fine on a T410i i3 last year with no problems at all with a dual boot system (VM still have problems with the connector cable).

    I'm out of ideas.

    Was it USB ?

if you use the non-free version of virtualbox it can behanded control of the USB port

Yes, it's USB> I'm currently trying one called VM Player. Some others have had success with this. I will have the install done in an hour..

    https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

and of course the Extension Pack which goes in after the OS install to give USB support

hi, if you like me and use it a good bit, it might be worth buying a cheap laptop with windows pre installed, I have an old dell laptop and have all my diagnostic equipment installed on it as most require only XP to run it.

only other solution I can suggest is buy another small capacity HDD, say an 80GB HDD, install win XP and the diagnostic software on that and just swap the HDD's over and back as you need them?
