Laptop Repair? - loose at hinges

I own a Dell Studio and clumsily dropped it about a year ago. While it was largely fine afterwards, in the past couple of months it has started to come apart at the hinges near the base of the screen (see attached images).

Though the laptop still works perfectly well, I am worried that - with such delicate wiring exposed - this will seriously increase the chances of something bad happening.

Is there anywhere around Dublin - preferably city centre - which could snap it back together, or replace whatever part of the cover has been damaged, for a reasonable price?

    Thanks

I got mine fixed at Fix My Pc on Aungier St recently. They fixed the hinges for free while they were fixing something else so I'm not sure what they'd charge. Maybe ring them and ask if they can do it?

    Cheers. I'll check them out.

    Hi,

    How did it go?
I have the same issue with my dell studio. Looks like pretty bad hardware.

    Regards

I had a Dell some years ago and despite the fact that I always kept it in its protective case the hinges broke on me twice. When I first Googled the problem to see where to get it repaired I discovered I wasn't the only one to suffer this problem and it seemed to be a known issue. I was abroad at the time and laptop repair shops were few and far between, I contacted Dell who (eventually) got back to me saying they couldn't help as they only "manufacture the things" not repair them but gave me a list of possible companies who "might" be able to help me and the name of the local Dell agent. I gave it to the local Dell agent and he sent it away for about six weeks to have it repaired, a few months after I got it back the hinge broke again and the agent told me that he would have to send it away again at my cost.
I looked to try and source a replacement hinge myself only to discover there were about six different variants on the hinge and no way of knowing for sure which hinge I needed. In the end I gave up on it and its still somewhere in my attic.
The whole experience put me off Dell and I've never bought another Dell product since and I'm highly unlikely to.

I had it repaired at Fix My PC on Aungier St. It wasn't cheap, though. €145, and they estimated the cost at less than that. Was a bit annoyed. There are several PC repair shops around Dublin city, if you live near there, so it wouldn't do any harm to shop around.

phew, never thought it would be so expensive. called up dell and they said they can send someone over to fix it for 90 euros..maybe will go with that

145 for that is insane, 60-100 should definitely cover it.

it's not actually that hard to fix something like this, once you have a replacement hinge.

its time that costs the money in this case. :P

wanted to give an update on this.
The dell guys came to my house and fixed this for 105 euros. They changed 5 parts, so I feel I got a good deal.
I had a dell warranty (but that doesn't cover hinges). Had a lengthy fight with the call centre guy (he was initially quoting 295 euros). But talking to his manager and some tactics, got it for less :).
    Am happy now
