Has anybody got livestock insurance ?

With thefts of livestock happening now and again it make you think how easy it is for a lorry to come and load up your stock out of the shed and be gone without a trace, especially on outfarms.

is there insurance to cover this ?

I know there is insurance for pedigree animals and animal transport but that's all I could find on the web, will be quizzing broker soon.

Enquired with FBD re this facility but it is not available .they were ready to run with it 2 years ago but opted out possibly because of the high level of theft out there pushing premiums and claim too high , I dont know if other insurers provide cover but I would definately avail of it as I have an outfarm which requires a lot of mmonitoring and security . The UFU in NI provide cover at very low premiums so maybe there is a niche in the market for the IFA.

its badly wanted, sure an average slatted shed could have at least 80 grand worth of animals in it at least, most lads would be out of business if they're hit.:mad:

Cost about €300 per year to insure sheep for a maximum payout of €4000 in the event of a dog attack or about 6-7% so I wouldn't like to be trying to insure for a 80 grand payout

id reckon a lot of tractors would be worth circa 80 grand as in contractors machinery surely it make no difference whether it's livestock or a tractor if its stolen its stolen, but yes €300 premium for only €4000 payout is not great.

a guy from Acorn told me they do farm as well, not much mention on their website though

Seems to me the most expensive crowd by a mile are FBD, for farm insurance or any other insurance for that matter.
Got quote last three years in a row from them. Averaging almost double the average elsewhere.

Went on the no nonsense.ie last week to get a quote for another car outside of the farm insurance. It's owned by FBD.
Came out at €696!!!
Two other quotes for same insurance €388 and €362. With a bit of haggling I insured for €335.
That's taking the urine big time.

We have the farm insurance stripped back to just the multiperil and the tractors/loader. No houses , cars or jeeps much cheaper overall and you are only looking for hundreds on each renewal not a couple of grand in one swoop.

Got a quote of €100 euro less than FBD on the car from Aviva a couple of years ago, when I looked into it properly, it didnt
1. include drawing a trailer
2. cover the contents
3. include glass
I'm sure I could get these included, but would expect all to be included in 'Comprehensive' insurance and could have been caught out.

likewise got a quote from them for farm and forestry , when I read through the proposal it was joke, , no cover for some very important issues, including employees liability
