Gate Cinema Unproffesional

Like many in Cork I am unemployed and have been searching for work for nearly 3 months. So when I got a call from the Gate Cinema for an interview I was ecstatic.

2 hours before my interview I was told that the perfect candidate had been found. No apology and seemed enthusiastic to tell me how perfect the person was.

I was dumb founded. I have years worth of experience and even that aside to say they found the perfect person before even doing all the interviews is a bad practice. You interview everyone first then make a decision.

I know that this has happened to a number of people I know and there should be someone to report these employers to.

I can understand your annoyance. I wouldn't be happy either.

If I were you, I'd write them a letter and say that while you are happy they got a perfect candidate, you're disappointed you didn't get a chance to prove yourself. Hopefully, they'll keep you in mind next time something comes up as they'll have a nice letter from you as a reminder.

    Best of luck.

Ahh, if the employer is required to be fair, then yes, they are required to do that. But generally it only applies to government employers.

Others have to follow the law (not discriminate on age, ethnicity... , pay minimum wage and give minimum holidays), but they do not need to be "fair".

What they did was stupid (you feel badly about them and once you find a job will not be keen to go to the movies there), but not wrong. Many, many employers will stop looking as soon as they find a suitable candidate for the job.

I hate when that happens, its happened to me a few times for just very simple short contracted type of jobs. That was before the recession hit...times haven't changed really from that point of view.

I think just move on from it and keep applying for jobs. Cork city isn't a bad place to try and find work but you may need to look further afield if you can afford to travel or leave cork? Maybe a course to keep your skills up to date.
