Hi the car failed the nct. There was rust under the rear door on the body work.

They said I couldn't fill this and it would need to be cut out and replaced.

Is this a really big job and is it expensive? There is alot of rust there and a large hole.

Assuming the hole is on the outer body panel and not on a structural part then it's unlikely to be a huge job.

As they said, sand off all the surface rust, cut out the bad area and weld in a good piece. A bit of filler to build up the contour and smooth over the joints and you're ready to respray with a primer then colour.

The NCT are really only concerned that there are no sharp edges so if you're reasonably handy and not fussy about the finish you could do it yourself.
