When asked this I always feel like if they're willing to give more and you say a lower amount then they will give this?

What do you say to this question? (Assuming you're going for an entry level position)

I say Im open to offers :/

I usually give a range based on the current going market rate for similar positions at other companies. Let them offer within the range, naturally the top end is higher than I would expect.

    Good tip.

Would 22,000 to 28,000 be a reasonable range in your opinion?

Naturally 28k would be the dream haha and 22k would be bearable.

We ask this to see if there's even a reason to make you an offer; for example I've had multiple candidates asking for salaries which are 2+ grades above what they are interviewing for (i.e. entry positions asking for 40k to 60k etc.); I also know that if you'd say 25k and our base salary for the position is 30k you'd get 30k.

Having said that I don't claim that's the policy in all companies though.

Ah I see well that makes sense.

And yes I'd imagine its the policy of large companies and multinationals but could see small consultancies taking the savings.
