    On paper the Ixus 500 looks better

    10 megapixels is loads for family photos. It also has more zoom range, bigger screen, faster shooting, full high definition video, higher ISO (should be better in low light indoors), fast shutter, and it's not pink.

    But I'm not familiar with either camera.
