PBs on non certified courses, do you count your times?

I'm just curious to know what people think about non certified courses.
Do you count your times as PB, I'd have to admit that if I was in any doubt about the course it would always niggle at me!

Yes, unless the indications are that the course is short.

but it might only be 100% of the distance and not 101% on a 10k that could be 100m/20sec, and both are called 10k.
none of this would bother me but it take loads of effort for me to take 20sec out of my time.

Even on an accurately measured 10k you're going to run further because
    • You won't run the optimal line all the way and
    • The measurer will build in a 'fiddle factor' to ensure the course isn't short
I don't think any runner would claim a PB if the course was considered short, or if it was a significant net downhiller.

    I would suggest no.

Unless the course has been measured properly with a Jones Counter then I don't see how anyone could count it as a PB.

A 10 second PB could just as easily be because the course was 50 metres short.

I believe (open to correction) that courses have to be measured 0.1% long (not 1%).

Yep one meter on to every km. Actually I don't think it has to be done, but its common practice by the people who provide course measuring, they need to cover themself also ha, if a big road race record is set on a course then Athletics Ireland could well come back and remeasure it for verification, you really really don't want the course that you measured at 10k come back as 9999m ha!

10m on a 10k is nothing by the way, 2secs maybe, and as was said you'll probably lose that not running the optimum line.

Personally I would, if all the indications e.g. Garmin readings were 10k+ - although I appreciate there is an error factor. It's only personal to the runner after all.

Kind of related, I ran 36.17 through the 10km marker in the Frank Duffy 10m last year in the Phoenix park.
My only other 10k was today on a verified course, I finished in 37.20.

    Question; what's my 10k PB?

If there is an official 10k split, ie were there timing mats down at the 10k? You can take that as a pb assuming there is no massive net downhill!

There was no 10K mark in the Frank Duffy 10. All marks were in miles.
