thinking about either getting an Gas blowback Pistol or the G&G raider

kind of a noob when it comes to airsoft, at the moment i only have a shotgun that i mess around with the odd time for fun, i have shot pistols and AEG's before that friends had and liked both, but would it be worth the extra expense getting the raider if i was to go airsoft in the future, know a few people that do it now and then.

Was thinking about the pistol just to have abit of fun out the garden ( i have a long garden lol ), i know the pistol does come with additional expenses like gas, how long would a can of gas last?.

So do i either go for the G&G at the additional expense if i go to airsaoft in the future, or just get the pistol to use as fun and rent equipment if i do go to airsoft?

you've basically answer the question yourself; get the Raider if you think you might get into airsoft at a later date. For plinking I would go for a pistol though. they're just more fun for messing around with unless you get a GBB rifle :). A can of gas will last depending on how often you use it really. I've had the same can for over a half a year now that i use on grenades. But they don't get used much. I would say a can would last maybe 2-3 months. That's just a guess though as i use CO2, it's a been a while since i used green gas in a pistol.
The raider will not set you back that much compared to the pistol. A pistol is 150ish depending on the model you're looking at. add an extra mag, or two that's 180 or 210 depending on if buy one or 2 extra mags. For the Raider you're looking at maybe 230 (off the top of my head, can't remember figure) add a battery and charger you're at 300-ish, that's 90 in the difference for either a pistol or a full skirmish -able AEG.

It's down to preference and where you think you're going with airsoft :)

Tokyo Marui pistol, any one of them really! Can outshoot a lot of aegs and you have the kickback and noise too! If you become proficient shooting with a pistol, you'll have no problem being accurate with an aeg later.

Where do your interests primarily lie? When you think about shooting, do you think about running around a field firing at people (and critically, having them fire back), or do you think about just the simple joy of shooting i.e. targets (filling in imaginary danger :P)

If it's the former then obviously an AEG is going to suit you better. It isn't up for a debate, an AEG is the most practical skirmish gun you can get - it is reliable (for all intents and purposes), adaptable and accurate...not to mention the sheer ammo capacity, and an ability to keep sustained fire virtually regardless of weather conditions. There is a reason the AEG is the gold standard in airsoft.

However, if your interests are primarily in the collecting/plinking side of things (i.e. where shooting them is not as important as just having them to hand etc), then you will get much more fun out of a GBB pistol. Gas Blow Back guns are much more satisfying to shoot - there's more noise, you get a little bit of feedback when you pull the trigger, and they're more realistic. Infinitely less practical, but they make up for that with the fun factor. There is no doubt that gas guns can be effective in a skirmish, but there is also no doubt that replacing that gas gun with an AEG would see an improvement (whereas replacing an AEG with a GBB would result in a negative gain).

I'm biased though...I love pistols. I just find them a lot more satisfying and gratifying than rifles - sure rifles are great, and they're more accurate etc...but they're just not as cool, and so I literally have about 3:1 ratio of pistols to rifles

Inari is spot on in that you'll survive longer in a skirmish if toting an aeg but who hasn't gotten more satisfaction from a pistol "kill" than an aeg "kill". I got about eight "kills" with my M14 in Redbarn while defending the courtyard but it was the one "kill" with my pistol that gave me more satisfaction. Shoot outs with pistols are more personal IMO.:D

Hope the term "kill" doesn't upset anyone btw.

Use hits then, but honestly is common terminology around here :) read through post, airsofters always use it :D
