Can anyone reccomend a cheap car for about 500 euros? Till I save enough to buy a Yaris?
Need it for about 6mths 1litre and a car not too low down as I suffer from Arthritis in my back.
Dont want a Micra or Fiesta, looking at VW Polos any other reccomendations
    much appreciated
    Thank you:)

if you can find ANY fiesta, micra or polo thats taxed, nct'ed and running for 500e why the hell wouldn't you take it? all 3 are reliable runarounds.
for most of the above, 500e wouldn't cover the cost of taxing and ncting.

Anything for €500 is gonna be a gamble. The safest bets are old Japanese cars, but these pretty much all have very low driving positions.
Maybe a credit union loan for a yaris might be an option. A €500 car might be a bottomless pit.

More chance of finding something tidy in a less sellable car like a punto, matiz, or Clio or 206 but again its a gamble.
A rover 25 1.1 might be an option too.

Whatever you do, make sure that you find a mechanic/mechanically minded friend to bring with you when looking at any car in that price range. Chances are the majority of cars you will see for around €500 are going to be pretty rough, and the last thing you want to do is spend that much on a car only to have to spend as much again keeping it on the road for the next 6 months.

Id agree with Colm; for €500 I wouldnt be looking much outside of Japanese cars.

For that kind of money an old Micra would be a good bet. Easy to fix if something breaks.
Swallow your pride OP, go Micra :D

I loved mine great MPG but for you Forget Suziki swift 1000cc type from late 90s great car but hard on my back seat is low down I know had one before it got robbed .
Many small jap cars are problem for the backs even though they are great cars even when old
The bigger engine Carina 1.6 petrol can very good or the diesel 2l if you can get one. I had for a year the Fait Bravo 1998 1.4 L great big seats and got it free from Friend only 40,000 on the clock when I got it .Clutch went in no time less than 5000 miles and front tyres and front brake disks and brakes .Paid €1000 to fix all that after that great runner and now my niece owns it I paid so much for the year i had it .The Punto and the Brava 1 liters and 1.2 land Bravo 1.2 liters and 1.4 liters are supposed to be fairly good bets if your not going Asian
In Fact all the Asians are often the best Korea etc .I tried to test my friends i20 thing and there wasn't enough space for my left knee to use clutch pedal so didn't even try to drive that thing it would need to be automatic for me to drive a i20

For 500 I think Micra or a Fiesta is the only option!

Look also for Daihatsu Charade or Cuore. Often overlooked and hence bargain basement.

They can go on a sniff of petrol.

Here's a 1.3 with loads of NCT for 850 quid

Bit saucy at €850 for a 95 charade unless you're buying the novelty?

Anything with more than half a years NCT will be pretty much above the 500 eur mark. Age doesn't actually matter with these.

Jaysus I'd buy the charade before I'd buy any of those ^

no at least if anything goes wrong with these it will be easy find one in a scrap yard. The charade wasnt sold in great numbers. Most of them will be cubes by now
