Just cleaning my chain tonight and spotted some wear on the rear mech. Is this something I should replace ASAP or has it more life left it in yet? Is it something I can swap out myself?

Pic available at the link below, you might need to zoom in to see the damage.

Agree with that! Very simple to change the jockey wheel, you don't even need to open the chain. Part is fairly cheap too.

It doesn't look too bad. If the jockey wheels spin freely, still mesh cleanly with the chain and the gear indexing is OK, I wouldn't bother just yet.

The jockey wheels on the rear mech are idlers (driven by the chain rather than driving the chain), so their condition is less critical than that of the chainrings.

Jockey wheels on a rear mechanism are just idlers, some early mechs didn't even have toothed guides. I would be more concerned about sprocket teeth wear and chain stretch before I would go about changing them.

Same situation for me at the moment. Bad shifting in the middle sprockets seems to be a function of worn jockey wheels (tested via a swop out from another bike). For Shimano 105 a new entire mech is under €50 with CRC whereas replacement jockey wheels run to nearly half that

Is there a good non-OEM replacment jockey wheel set for Shimano 10speed that folks would recommend? Above seems rather pricey......

I've used BBB RollerBoys in an Ultegra mech. Still ok after 6 months or more
