9 in march means he is under 10. Basically whatever age you are on on Jan1 determines the grade ( or midnight on Dec 31 to be exact ) .
He is also eligible for under 12 if he is strong enough

What exactly do you mean by "turned 9"?

If it was his 9th birthday he's Under 9. If it was his 10th birthday he's U10.

    Or, for 2013:

    Born in 1997 - U16
    1998 - U15
    1999 - U14
    2000 - U13
    2001 - U12
    2002 - U11
    2003 - U10
    2004 - U9
    2005 - U8
    2006 - U7
    2007 - U6

You have to be born on the 1st of January, otherwise you're a banger. I'm sure of course there's plenty of clubs cheating by a month or so, but your team could be docked points or have medals taken off them if it was reported that you're a banger. Just stick with Minor.
